How to Fix Front Wheel Bearings

Now, more and more people have their own cars so that the front wheel bearings are important for people to know and thus they could use the front wheel bearings rightly and appropriate to extend the life of cars. You've probably heard the saying “The squeaky front wheel bearings gets the grease.” There's a lot of truth in that statement, but to be more accurate it should be “The squeaky front wheel bearings needs some grease.” Here's how to fix those front wheel bearings on your car. Everyone who wants to have his or her own car should know how to fix the front wheel bearings stably on the car.

 

 If you want fix the front wheel bearings rightly, you must understand the things you will need firstly. Following is the instructions for fixing front wheel bearings. The things are various such as jack, jack stands, chock, channel lock pliers, rags, wheel bearing races, wheel bearing grease, wheel bearing seals, wrench, cotter key and so on. As long as you know all of this, you could fix the front wheel rightly.

 

 1.Remove the Front Wheel Bearings
 First, before fix the front wheel bearings on the car, you should park the car on level concrete, then jack the car up and place jack stands under it. Chock the front rear wheel bearings. Take the tire off the front wheel bearings. Take the front wheel bearings cap off. Pull out the cotter key and the retaining ring with the channel lock pliers. Detach the nut from its spindle.

 

 Second, pull out the outer front wheel bearings and inspect it for any damage. Set the front wheel bearings aside. Pull the rotor off the spindle. Pull out the inner front wheel bearings as well as any gaskets. Inspect the front wheel bearings as well. Wipe out all the grease of the front wheel bearings with an old rag.

 

 Third, remove the races of the front wheel bearings from the hub. Be sure to keep the front wheel bearings straight as you pull them off. Don't let the front wheel bearings get crooked or they might bind and be harder to remove. Clean out the spindle as well as the races of the front wheel bearings. Make sure everything of the front wheel bearings is clean before you move on to the next section.

 

 2.Install the Front Wheel Bearings
 Put some clean grease on a front wheel bearing race. Slide the front wheel bearings onto the spindle. Make sure the front wheel bearing is on straight and fully seated on the spindle. Repeat the process for the second race. Pack grease into the front wheel bearings. Make sure each front wheel bearing has plenty of grease surrounding it.
 
 Set the inner front wheel bearings back into place on top of the greased races. Push the seal of the front wheel bearings into place. Both should be lying flat. Slide the rotor back on the spindle. And the rotor of the front wheel bearings should be flush against the race and seal.

 

 Slip the outer set of greased front wheel [bearings] on to the spindle. Top the outer set of front wheel bearings with the washer. Line up the nut and tighten it by hand. Spin the front wheel bearings, and then retighten the nut. Tighten the front wheel bearings no more than 1/4 turn with a wrench. Insert a new cotter key back in the hole on the spindle. Open its prongs to keep it in place. Grease the inside of the hub and tap it in place. Put the tire back on the car and lower the car from the jacks. And this is the process how to fix the front wheel bearings. This skill will be useful for everyone who has a car.
